FC Kansas City News Release

BOSTON, MA - In the last match before the two-week break during the 2015 Canada FIFA Women's World Cup's group stage, FC Kansas City was unable to find the back of the net as the Blues dropped their second game in a row 1-0 against the Boston Breakers in front of 3,176 fans at the Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium in Harvard University.

Despite falling to the Breakers (3-3-1, 10 points), the Blues' goal difference kept them above Boston in the NWSL standings. FC Kansas City (3-4-1, 10 points) will continue it's three-game road trip when they visit the Portland Thorns FC on Friday, June 19 at Providence Park.

Former FC Kansas City players Kristie Mewis, Morgan Marlborough and Kassey Kallman started for the Breakers. On the other hand, Coach Vlatko Andonovski put on the field the same eleven players that starred in last week's defeat against the Chicago Red Stars.

The Blues came out to the field with an offensive mindset and played their best soccer during the first fifteen minutes of the match creating several scoring opportunities but goalkeeper Jami Kranich disallowed FCKC's offensive line at least three times.

On the other end, goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart made a phenomenal diving save from a Stephanie McCaffrey shot followed by a punch over the bar after a Mewis rebounded rocket to keep the score tied at 0-0.

Both teams generated plenty of opportunities before the halftime break but the scoreboard remained intact as both teams headed to the locker rooms.

Only six minutes after kicking off the second half, Mewis scored the match's only tally after capitalizing a left-footed shot from outside the box that crossed the goal line in the top right corner of Barnhart's goal to give Boston a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, FC Kansas City's leading scorer Liz Bogus almost found the equalizer when she entered the box on the left side of the field for a 1v1 with Kranich who was able to keep the ball in her gloves.

Kansas City would keep on trying to tie the game but was unable to defeat Kranich who was named game MVP.
