Nuts' Staff Shaken by Quakes in 13-2 Loss

Rancho Cucamonga, CA. - A seven-run fifth sank the Modesto Nuts in a 13-2 loss to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday night at LoanMart Field.
The loss sends the Nuts (23-25) to a sweep, their third straight loss and their seventh straight defeat on the road.
The Nuts' starter, Konner Wade (L, 2-5), started the fifth, but would not record an out. He walked the first hitter before Kyle Farmer whacked a RBI triple. Cody Bellinger followed and clubbed a RBI double to knock Wade out of the game. Troy Nieman followed out of the Nuts' bullpen and promptly allowed a RBI double to the Quakes' (27-20) Joey Curletta. Paul Hoenecke followed with a two-run homer. Two more runs scored against Nieman on a sac fly and a RBI groundout.
Wade worked four innings and allowed six hits, eight runs, five earned while walking three and striking out none.
Ramon Benjamin (W, 2-2) worked two innings out of the bullpen for the Quakes and did not allow a run while striking out three.
The Nuts move on to Visalia to take on the Rawhide for four games. The first begins at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night.
