Lancaster Stormers News Release

It had been a long time coming.

The Lancaster Barnstormers pelted Bridgeport with 18 hits on Friday evening to defeat the Bluefish, 13-5, in the third game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Blake Gailen and Lance Zawadzki each drove in four runs, and seven Barnstormers had multiple hit games as Lancaster established new season highs in both runs and hits.

Initially, the game appeared to be a pitchers' duel between left-handers Matt Packer and Mike Antonini as Lancaster carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth. Runs scored in the next seven half-innings.

RBI singles by Keith Castillo and Lance Zawadzki off Mike Antonini (2-3) in the bottom of the fourth stretched the Lancaster lead to 3-0, but Welington Dotel got the Bluefish on the board with a two-out RBI single off Packer (3-3) in the top of the fifth.

Gailen again built the Lancaster lead, slugging his seventh homer of the season with a man aboard in the bottom of the inning. Again, the Bluefish raced back as Jovan Rosa singled in a two-out run in the top of the sixth, and, following an error, the red hot Luis Rodriguez got another home, greeting Cody Eppley with a lined single into center.

Tyler Bortnick singled home one, and Gailen added two, with singles in the bottom of the sixth inning. Again, the Bluefish battled back as John Alonso found the screen in right center with a man aboard for his fourth homer of the campaign, chopping Lancaster's lead back to 8-5.

Dan Coury contributed a home run in the bottom of the seventh, and Lancaster added four more in the eighth, three on a double by Zawadzki, to put the game out of reach.

Scott Gracey and Pete Andrelczyk put the game to rest with a scoreless inning apiece.

The finale of the series takes place on Saturday evening as the Barnstormers send Shunsuke Watanabe (1-2) to the mound looking for the sweep. Fireworks will again follow the game. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
