Rhoades Key in Bees' Win over Bandits

(Burlington-IA)- Bees' starting pitcher Jeremy Rhoades pitched seven shutout innings, helping the Bees beat the Quad Cities River Bandits, 3-1 on Friday night at Community Field.

Jeremy Rhoades opened the game by striking out the first two hitters he faced before Mott Hyde lined a two out single to center. The next batter, Jacob Nottingham shot a single to left, putting runners at first and second with two outs. Rhoades was able to get Nick Tanielu to foul out to end the threat.

Michael Hermosillo picked up the Bees' first hit of the game, lining a single to center to start the bottom of the fourth. After Hermosillo stole second, Joshua James retired the next two hitters in order, kepping Hermosillo at second with two outs. Natanael Delgado ripped a double off the right field wall, scoring Hermosillo, putting the Bees on top 1-0.

The Bees got the lead off man aboard again when Ryan Seiz doubled to open the bottom of the fifth inning. Fran Whitten then grounded out to first, moving Seiz to third with one out. Erick Salcedo blooped a single to center, scoring Seiz, upping the Bees' lead to 2-0.

Andrew Daniel got the Bees started in the sixth inning, grounding a single to right field. Later in the inning, Natanael Delgado smacked his second double of the game, scoring Daniel, pushing the Bees' lead to 3-0.

Quad Cities pushed across a run in the ninth inning on a Kristian Trompiz single, scoring Nick Tanielu but Eduardo Paredes was able to strike out the side, limiting the damage to just one run, securing the win with his seventh save of the season.

Bees' starter Jeremy Rhoads (4-3) pitched seven innings and did not allow a run while rendering five hits, walking one, and striking out nine, earning the win. Joshua James (1-1) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the River Bandits continue the series Saturday night at 6:30 at Community Field.
