Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves dropped the series opener to the Akron RubberDucks on Friday night at Canal Park, 5-4, sending Erie to its second straight road loss.

The Ducks jumped ahead in the first inning against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. With one out, Todd Hankins belted a solo home run down the left field line for a 1-0 lead. Erik Gonzalez followed and was hit by a pitch. Yandy Diaz and Destin Hood followed with consecutive singles. Gonzalez scored on a Hook knock for a 2-0 lead. Jordan Smith doubled home Diaz for a 3-0 Ducks advantage. With two outs, Tony Wolters singled home Hood and Smith for a 5-0 Akron lead.

Erie got on the board in the second off of Akron starter Mike Clevinger. Harold Castro singled with one out and scored on a two-out Austin Green double making it 5-1.

In the fourth, Wade Gaynor led off and blasted a solo home run to left making it a 5-2 game. The home run was Gaynor's fifth of the season.

Dean Green led off the sixth and hammered his seventh home run of the season making it 5-3. It was Green's third home run in the last six games.

In the top of the ninth, Curt Powell led off with a triple off of reliever Enosil Tejeda. Powell would score on a wild pitch, however Tejeda retried the next three in order, preserving the Akron win.

Saupold (1-2) settled down after the first inning and went on to toss a season-high 6.1 innings of work. He allowed five runs on 10 hits with no walks and four strikeouts in the losing effort.
