Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE FREEDOM (6-6) vs. NORMAL CORNBELTERS (8-4)

Friday, May 29, 2015 - 7:05 p.m. ET

UC Health Stadium - Florence, KY

Game #13 - Home Game #7 (6-6), (5-1)

Normal: LHP #48 Kevin Brahney (2-0, 0.64 ERA)

Last time out...

The Freedom fell to the Grizzlies 10-4 on Thursday night. Blake Brown hit a three-run homer in the first and Gateway proceeded to tack on five more runs in the second inning. A lead-off base-on-balls started the frame. After a double put runners on second and third, Clayton Brandt singled home two runs to make it 5-0 in favor of Gateway. Another single put runners on first and second. Rolando Gomez singled to left and Cody Bishop missed the ball as it went all the way to the wall, allowing two runs to score and Gomez to advance to third. He would score on a wild pitch to make it 8-0 in favor of the Grizzlies. Florence cut the lead in half in the top of the third inning as Austin Newell and Bishop both launched two-run home runs to make the score 8-4. But that's as close as the Freedom would get as they failed to tally a hit after the fifth inning and Gateway finished with 14 hits on the night.

For Starters...

Coleman Stephens makes his fourth start of the year tonight for Florence. His most recent start was a tough one as the Evansville Otters tagged him for seven runs on 11 hits over the course of six innings as the Freedom fell 8-4. However, his previous two starts he only allowed one run over the course of 15 innings. 2015 is Stephens' fourth season of professional baseball and his second go-around in the Frontier League. Florence acquired Stephens as part of a three-team trade on December 28, 2014, which saw Jacob Tanis head to Windy City. The right-hander made his professional debut in 2012 with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings of the North American Baseball League. Stephens split the 2013 season between the Fort Worth Cats of the United League and the Frontier Greys, compiling an 8-3 record in 20 appearances, 18 starts. Last season, Stephens played in the American Association, splitting time between Amarillo and Gary.
