Frk, Hirschfeld and Czarnowczan Arrive from Toledo

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Friday reassigned right wing Martin Frk from the ECHL's Toledo Walleye to the Grand Rapids Griffins. In addition, the Griffins recalled forward Alden Hirschfeld and defenseman Scott Czarnowczan from their ECHL affiliate.

Detroit's first choice (49th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Frk has split his 2014-15 season between the Griffins and Walleye, garnering six goals and six assists in 32 games with Grand Rapids and 23 goals and 15 assists in 38 regular season games with Toledo. Most recently, Frk was a key component of the Walleye's playoff run to the ECHL Eastern Conference Finals, where the team fell to the South Carolina Stingrays in Game 7 during triple overtime. The Pelhrimov, Czech Republic, native potted 13 points (9-4-13) in 14 playoff games with Toledo, ranking among team leaders with nine goals (T1st), 13 points (6th), three power play goals (1st), and 20.0 shooting percentage (2nd). He also potted two assists in two playoff games with the Griffins during their Western Conference Quarterfinals series against the Toronto Marlies.

Hirschfeld, 27, spent a majority of the regular season with Toledo, ranking sixth on the team in scoring with 44 points (11-33-44), 21 penalty minutes and a plus-15 rating in 59 games. The 27-year-old also appeared in 12 games with the Griffins, tallying a goal, an assist and 10 PIM. The 6-foot, 203-pound center scored the series-clinching goal against the Toronto Marlies on May 3 and has appeared in six Grand Rapids playoff games in all. The Dallas, Texas, native also appeared in seven games with the Walleye during their stint in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, posting one goal and four PIM.

Czarnowczan, 24, collected 14 assists and 22 PIM in 15 games during the Walleye's playoff run, ranking first among team defensemen in scoring. A native of Macomb, Mich., Czarnowczan picked up 10 points (2-8-10), 30 PIM and a plus-11 rating in 29 games with the Griffins during his first professional season. In addition, he logged 29 regular season games with Toledo, earning 25 points (2-23-25), 12 PIM and a plus-13 rating. On March 19, the Griffins re-signed Czarnowczan to a one-year contract for the 2015-16 season.

The Griffins, who trail the Utica Comets two games to one, will look to even up their Western Conference Finals series with a home game tonight at 7 p.m. Game 5 will take place at Van Andel Arena on Sunday at 5 p.m.
