Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (23-24) ensured themselves a winning homestand by taking the third game of the series with the Tacoma Rainiers (19-28) by a score of 5-2. Omaha also locked up at least a split with the Rainiers, and have yet to lose a home series this season.
On the "Salute the Kansas City Royals Night" at Werner Park, it was only fitting that rehabbing Royals outfielder Alex Rios went deep for a two-run shot in the first inning (his first RBIs during his MLB Rehab). The Storm Chasers also got a two-run homer from Brett Eibner for insurance runs in the eighth, his team-leading fifth homer of the season. Eibner has seven RBI in seven games since returning from a disabled list stint, and has the fewest games played (19) among players in the PCL with 20 or more RBI.
The Storm Chasers got another solid start from John Lamb, who earned his team-leading fifth win by putting together five innings of two-run ball. Lamb is one of eight pitchers in Pacific Coast League with five wins or more, as he is tied with six others while Las Vegas' Steven Matz leads with six wins. After Lamb exited, Buddy Baumann and Michael Mariot combined for four scoreless innings, with Mariot earning his third save in as many games.
Rey Fuentes continued his hot homestand with two hits, two runs and a tie-breaking RBI single in the fifth inning that put Omaha ahead for good. Fuentes has 13 hits in his 24 at-bats this homestand, good for a .542 average, and has scored 10 runs in the six games. In his last 17 games overall since May 11, Fuentes leads the Storm Chasers by batting .418 (23-for-55) which has raised his average from .253 to a team-leading .321 mark.
The Storm Chasers will look to win their third home series in the last four at Werner Park as they send out RHP Andy Ferguson (1-1, 1.50 ERA), who has not allowed more than one earned run in any start this year at Double-A or Triple-A. He will face off against Rainiers RHP Justin Germano (3-2, 2.95 ERA), with first pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
