Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 27, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (16-15) were unable to hold a 3-1 lead in the late innings as they fell to the Lancaster Barnstormers (11-21) 4-3 in the opening game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on Wednesday night. It was the third-time this season that the Bluefish have lost a game in the opponent's final turn at bat.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Parker Frazier picked up a no-decision, tossing six innings, allowing four hits and one run (no earned runs) walking one and striking out two, lowering his ERA to 1.80 on the young season. Lancaster Starting Pitcher Dan Osterbrock also did not factor in the decision, pitching five and one-third innings, surrendering five hits and three runs (two earned runs) walking two and striking out three while serving up a home run.

The 'Fish tied the game up at one in the top half of the fourth inning when Welington Dotel led off with a single, stole second base, and score the tying-run after Lancaster first baseman Blake Gailen committed a two-out error on a ground ball hit by Ryan Babineau. Bridgeport would take their first lead of the evening in the top half of the fifth inning with a two-out rally. Luis Rodriguez singled, and came around to score on a two-run home run by Sean Burroughs off Osterbrock, and just like that the score was 3-1 in favor of the Bluefish. It was the first roundtripper of the season for Burroughs.

With the score tied at three in the bottom half of the ninth inning, Lance Zawadzki led off with a single off Bluefish reliever Tim Gustafson. Zawadzki then stole second base, and the Barnstormers were in business. That brought up Dan Coury, who sent the Lancaster fans home happy with a game-winning single, scoring Zawadzki, as Lancaster picked up the one-run victory in walk-off fashion. Gustafson (0-3) was tagged with the loss, facing just two batters, giving up two hits and one run. Chad Beck (1-0) was victorious in relief for Lancaster, pitching a perfect ninth inning, striking out one. Rodriguez led the way for Bridgeport with three hits.

The Bluefish return home on Sunday, May 31st, when they host the Somerset Patriots at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in a day/night doubleheader. First-pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. in game number one and 6:05 p.m. in game number two.

The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit BridgeportBluefish.com.
