KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 27, 2015)- The Lexington Legends added two runs in the ninth inning to erase a one-run deficit and avoid the sweep by beating Kannapolis 4-3 Wednesday night at Intimidators Stadium presented by Carolinas HealthCare System. With two runners on in the ninth inning, Kyle Pollock doubled off Jefferson Olacio to score Alfredo Escalera and Chase Vallot.
Spencer Adams (2-3) worked a career-high seven innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking two and striking out four.
Olacio (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits in 1.0 inning of work.
Kannapolis grabbed a 1-0 lead in the home half of the third inning off Lexington' starter Torey Deshazier, who allowed an RBI single to Christian Stringer, scoring James Baldwin from third.
In the fifth inning, Kannapolis plated two more runs to make it 3-0. Baldwin tripled to right-center field and scored the next at-bat on a passed ball. Later in the inning the Intimidators loaded the bases, and Michael Danner scored from third when Brett Austin struck out and reached on a wild pitch.
Trailing 3-0, Lexington cut into the Intimidators lead in the top of the sixth by scoring one run to make it 3-1. With Michael Hill on first, Humberto Arteaga tripled down the right-field line to score Hill.
Lexington shrunk the Intimidators lead down to one in the eighth to make it 3-2 when Hill scored from third on a David Trexler wild pitch. Trexler worked 1.0 inning, allowing one run (zero earned) on one hit while striking out one.
Matt Strahm earned the win (2-1) by working 3.0 innings, allowing no runs, no hits, one walk and nine strikeouts.
The Intimidators hit the road for a seven-game road trip starting Thursday when Kannapolis opens a four-game series at Hagerstown as RHP Yelmison Peralta (1-4, 9.45 ERA) toes the rubber against the Suns. The Intimidators return home on Thursday, June 4, for a four-game series against Delmarva.
