Pablo Rossi's Extra-Time Goal Lifts Sounders FC 2 to 2-1 Victory over Timbers 2

May 27, 2015 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Seattle Sounders FC News Release

TUKWILA, WASH. - Facing Portland Timbers 2 for the second time in six days, Sounders FC 2 emerged with a 2-1 win after an extra-time winner from Pablo Rossi in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. With the victory, S2 advances to the Fourth Round to face Real Salt Lake in Sandy, Utah.

After a scoreless first half, T2 found the back of the net first from a corner kick taken by Blair Gavin. Gavin's cross found Rennico Clarke, who headed the shot past goalkeeper Saif Kerawala.

S2 equalized 12 minutes later when Sounders FC Homegrown Player Vic Mansaray sent a through-ball from the midfield that found Andy Craven, who took two touches around T2 goalkeeper Justin Luthy and put a shot into the empty net.

Regulation would end with the teams level 1-1, forcing two 15-minute extra time periods. Nearing the end of the first period, Sam Garza danced around the outside of the 18-yard box and sent a soft pass toward Rossi. A T2 defender attempted to clear the ball, but the pass found Rossi, whose shot beat Luthy to the far post to give S2 the eventual game-winner. The goal marked Rossi's third of the competition, and his second extra-time winner.

S2 is scheduled to play Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah in the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Broadcast details will be announced in the near future. The club returns to USL regular-season play this Saturday, May 30 with a road matchup at Orange County Blues FC (7:00 p.m. PT / SoundersFC.com)
