'Tips Extend Brennan Sonne's Contract

Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT - The Everett Silvertips today announced a contract extension for Assistant Coach Brennan Sonne that keeps him behind the team's bench for a second season in 2015-16. Sonne returned to his former WHL club last year for his first junior coaching experience under Silvertips Head Coach Kevin Constantine and alongside fellow assistant and Everett alumnus Mitch Love.
"Brennan did a terrific job as a first-year coach," said Silvertips General Manager Garry Davidson. "He managed the learning curve to become a valuable member of our staff and I have no doubt he'll continue to carve out a bigger and more defined role in the organization next year. I really like his work ethic and professionalism, plus I appreciate that he's willing to ask questions to get a better handle on anything he's unsure about. He has a bright coaching future ahead of him."
Sonne, 28, was an important part of the coaching staff that guided the Silvertips to their first U.S. Division title and playoff series win since 2006-07 - when he still played for the team. He worked primarily with the forwards and ran regular skill development sessions at practice this past season. Prior to joining the Everett coaching staff, he worked overseas with youth hockey players as Head Coach of Meco Hockey Academy in Hong Kong.
"Brennan has been fantastic working with our players on a day-to-day basis and I'm very pleased with what he's brought to the team," remarked Head Coach Kevin Constantine. "He and Mitch (Love) both care about this organization and work exceptionally hard to do whatever it takes to help the team succeed. Brennan is determined to improve his craft as a coach just as much as he wants to help our players improve. He also understands how to communicate with the young men in our locker room and can mentor players both on and off the ice."
Hailing from Maple Ridge, BC, Sonne wore the Silvertip uniform for parts of three seasons during his junior playing career. He joined the club from the BCHL midway through the 2005-06 season and became a fan favorite, totaling 14 points (9g/5a), a +3 plus/minus rating and 210 penalty minutes in 106 career games. He spent his overage WHL season with Red Deer and Edmonton before playing three seasons at the University of British Columbia, where he earned a Sociology degree in 2013.
The Silvertips are currently preparing for the 13th season of WHL hockey in Everett in 2015-16.
