Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, NC - The Rochester Red Wings salvaged the final game of a three-game set Wednesday afternoon at the DBAP, defeating the Durham Bulls 8-2.

After Durham won the first two games of the series, Rochester (26-21) jumped on the board with a pair of runs in the first inning behind two doubles, a walk and a sacrifice fly. After the teams traded scoreless innings, the Red Wings increased their lead in the fourth, scoring four runs after the first two batters of the inning were retired. Southpaw Everett Teaford allowed six straight hitters to reach base in the frame as the visitors extended their lead to 6-0.

Durham (26-23) countered in the bottom of the fourth as Mikie Mahtook led off with a single and Luke Maile followed with a double. JP Arenicibia then drove home Mahtook with a single, before Maile scored on a groundout to cut the deficit to 6-2.

That score would hold until the ninth, when Rochester's Josmil Pinto connected on a two-run homer over the Blue Monster to close the scoring at 8-2.

Left-hander Taylor Rogers (4-3) earned the victory, allowing two runs on seven hits over seven innings. Teaford (3-4) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on eight hits in four frames. In his first rehab assignment with the Bulls, CJ Riefenhauser tossed a scoreless fifth inning, allowing two hits and inducing a double play.

Arencibia led the offense for Durham, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Taylor Motter went 1-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to nine games. In his second rehab game with Durham, Ryan Brett went 1-for-4 with a double.

Durham returns to action Friday when they open a three-game series against the Syracuse Chiefs at the DBAP. The Bulls send RHP Matt Buschmann (4-3, 3.02) to the mound opposite RHP AJ Cole (0-1, 2.67) for the Chiefs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
