Kane County Cougars News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa- For the second time during their three-game winning streak the Kane County Cougars (23-23) shutout their opponent, blanking the Quad Cities River Bandits (33-13) by a score of 3-0 at Modern Woodman Park Tuesday evening. Getting back to .500, the Cougars saw clutch pitching all game including a solid outing from Wei-Chieh Huang in his professional debut.
Huang (1-0) was quickly given an advantage as Cody Regis smacked his first home run of the year with a two-run shot over the left field wall. Regis' blast gave the Cougars the lead, but was the only scoring for awhile.
Akeem Bostick (1-1) settled in after the two-run first, retiring 13 straight Cougars and striking out seven through five innings. Huang was a shade better picking up eight strikeouts and not allowing a base runner to reach scoring position until the sixth frame. Leaving with runners at the corners, Huang was one-out shy of a quality outing in his 2015 debut, but served up no runs as Nick Baker stranded both River Bandits on the bases.
The Cougars did not see the scoreboard again until the eighth inning. Stryker Trahan connected on a solo shot for the second straight game, pushing the Cougars' lead to 3-0.
After Luis Ramirez tossed a scoreless eighth, Jency Solis took the mound in the ninth and picked up his first save of the season.
The Cougars and River Bandits continue this series on Wednesday in Davenport. Touki Toussaint (0-0, 0.90) will take the mound for the Cougars against Quad Cities' Austin Chrismon (4-1, 2.37). First pitch is at 7:00 p.m. Coverage on AM 1280 WBIG and kccougars.com begins at 6:45 p.m.
