 Arizona Rattlers

Week 10 Game Preview

May 26, 2015 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Arizona Rattlers News Release

Phoenix, Ariz. - On paper, the game this Saturday May 30th at the Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane seems to be a mismatch. The Arizona Rattlers dispatched the Spokane Shock by 17 points in the opening weekend. The Rattlers have outscored their opponents by more than 8 points per game, while the Shock has been outscored by an average of over 7. On paper, the Rattlers have a clear advantage. Football is not played on paper. The Arizona Rattlers have not won in Spokane since 2012, and have only won once in Washington since the Shock joined the league. Saturday, the Rattlers will attempt to change that.

The Rattlers are coming off a bye week and last played on May 16th against the Las Vegas Outlaws. Despite fielding an offense that was hardly recognizable from last season (Rod Windsor was the only player on offense to have played a snap for the Rattlers last season), Arizona looked like the three time defending champion as they put down the Outlaws 60-41.

Defensively, the Rattlers again put together another complete game. Defensive back Jeremy Kellem and linebacker Tyre Glasper, both having career seasons, helped the defense control the tempo of the game. Kellem pulled in two more interceptions, making it six total on the year, and Glasper notched another sack, giving him 5.5 for the season.

Spokane is coming off a win over Las Vegas as well, beating the Outlaws last Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The Shock took a big lead on the Outlaws early, and was able to hold on despite allowing Las Vegas to score five touchdowns in the 4th. Shock quarterback Warren Smith had his best game of the season last week, throwing for 7 touchdowns, 342 yards, and only throwing one pick.

Arizona has earned only one victory in Spokane since the Shock joined the Arena Football League in 2010. Saturday, the Rattlers look to break that streak and earn that elusive win in the Evergreen State.

The game is Saturday, May 30th at the Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Washington at 7:00 p.m. PDT. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN 2 and can also be streamed online at ESPN3.com or on the WatchESPN app on a tablet or smartphone.
