Louisville City Takes on Indy 11 in 3rd Round of U.S. Open Cup

Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville, KY (May 26, 2015) -- It may very well be the biggest match in Louisville City FC's early history. Following a 1-0 win at Lansing United, City will now face Indy 11 with a trip to Toyota Park, and a fourth round match-up with the Chicago Fire on the line.
In the young club's first ever U.S. Open Cup match, Louisville was held scoreless for the first 45 minutes by Lansing United, despite dominating possession. Lan U seemed satisfied with conceding a majority of the possession, looking to score on long balls on counter attacks. Louisville would finally unlock the Lansing defense in the 48th minute, when Charlie Adams unloaded a shot on target that took a deflection off of a Lansing player. It was officially ruled an own-goal, and it was all City needed to advance to third round.
Now awaits the tough NASL club with it's rowdy supporters. Indy 11 played it's first season last year, making it the fourth round of the Open Cup by defeating the Dayton Dutch Lions 5-2. They would drop their fourth round contest to the Columbus Crew, in extra time, 2-1.
Lou City and Indy 11 met up in the preseason back on March 21st. Louisville would benefit from a 40-yard strike from Niall McCabe, and a game winning tap in from Matt Fondy to win 2-1. If City can get a similar result on Wednesday, they will face their first Major League Soccer opponent, the Chicago Fire, on June 17th.
