Mississippi Braves News Release

Jacksonville, FL - Matt Juengel provided three different RBI knocks including the go-ahead RBI in the 7th, and the Jacksonville Suns beat the Mississippi Braves 5-3 in a Memorial Day matinee at Bragan Field.

The loss for the Braves (24-20) wrapped up a 6-4 road trip and a 3-2 series in Jacksonville. The Suns (17-27) took the last two games of the series, taking back-to-back contests for the first time since May 9th and 11th against Mobile and Pensacola.

Juengel made his first appearance in the box score in the first inning. M-Braves starter Victor Mateo walked Austin Nola with two outs, and Viosergy Rosa singled for two men aboard. Juengel drove Nola home to make it 1-0 early.

Mateo and Suns starter Chipper Smith settled in from there, holding the game scoreless until the fifth when Mississippi broke through for a 3-1 lead.

Emerson Landoni and Eric Garcia hit back-to-back singles, and Mateo laid down a sacrifice bunt thrown wildly past first to score Landoni and tie the game 1-1. Mallex Smith laid down a bunt single for an RBI, extending his hit streak to six games. Loman added to the lead with an RBI single to plate Mateo and make it 3-1.

The Suns came right back off Mateo in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Carlos Lopez singled to start a stretch of four straight hits. Nola followed suit with a single, and Rosa and Juengel each drove in runs with singles to tie the game 3-3.

The game stayed tied until Ryan Weber (0-2) came on for his second relief frame in the seventh. A one out double for Nola put the go-ahead run in scoring position, and Juengel obliged again with the go-ahead RBI single, a 4-3 Suns lead.

Weber suffered the loss, allowing a run on two hits over two relief innings. Reliever Blake Logan (2-0) grabbed the win with a scoreless seventh.

The Suns extended the lead in the eighth against reliever Francisco Rondon, who loaded the bases and plated Sharif Othman from third on a wild pitch, making it 5-3.

Sean Donatello (S, 12) picked up his second save in as many days, working a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The M-Braves have an off day on Tuesday before returning home Wednesday to welcome the Pensacola Blue Wahoos to Trustmark Park, opening a ten-game home stand. Right-hander Jason Hursh (1-3, 6.35) takes the hill for Mississippi in the opener, with first pitch slated for 7:00 PM CT.

Listen live beginning at 6:30 PM CT on the flagship home of the Mississippi Braves, 103.9 WYAB, and online at MississippiBraves.com.
