International League Names Players of the Week
May 25, 2015 - International League (IL1) News Release
The International League announced today that Buffalo first baseman Matt Hague and Rochester pitcher Tommy Milone have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from May 18-24. Milone, a repeat winner, along with Pat Dean (April 13-19), gives Rochester a League-best three weekly awards this season. Hague is the second member of the Bisons to be so honored in 2015, following Chris Colabello (April 20-26).
MATT HAGUE, Buffalo Bisons IL BATTER OF THE WEEK
Buffalo's Matt Hague was a doubles machine this past week, hitting three more doubles (eight) than the total number of extra-base hits accumulated by any other player in the League. He also led the circuit with 12 hits and 9 RBI to go along with a .414 batting average. For the season, Hague leads the IL with 57 hits, 15 doubles, 80 total bases, and 31 RBI, and is 2nd in the League in hitting with a .350 average. It's the second career IL weekly award for Hague, who was previously honored in 2013 while with Indianapolis (May 20-26). 29-year-old Matt Hague is in his eighth season playing professionally. He joined Buffalo last August after being claimed off waivers by Toronto from the organization that drafted him, Pittsburgh. Hague is a native of Bellevue, Washington.
TOMMY MILONE, Rochester Red Wings IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
For the second week in a row, and third time in his career (June 27-July 3, 2011 with Syracuse), Tommy Milone is the International League Pitcher of the Week. He followed up last week's honor with a six-hit, 9.0 inning shutout of the Durham Bulls last Monday. In that outing he tied a career high with 13 strikeouts. Yesterday in his fourth start since being optioned from Minnesota, Milone finally surrendered his first run when Norfolk's Christian Walker hit a solo blast in the 9th inning of a 3-1 Red Wings victory over the Tides. In 31.2 innings of work in the IL this season, Milone has allowed just 20 hits and one run while striking out 41 batters. He becomes the League's first repeat winner of the Pitcher of the Week Award since Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Jonathan Albaladejo in 2010 (July 5-11 & July 12-18). The last Red Wing to claim consecutive weekly honors was pitcher Doug Linton in 1999 (July 12-18 & July 19-25). 28-year-old Tommy Milone is a veteran of 90 games in the Major Leagues with the A's (2012-14) and the Twins (2014-15), to whom he was traded last July for outfielder Sam Fuld. His overall record as a MLB pitcher is 34-24. Milone is a native of Saugus, California.
