Senators Walk off on Pleffner's Double

May 24, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Shawn Pleffner's RBI double off the fence in left field was the walk-off winner as the Harrisburg Senators beat the New Britain Rock Cats 2-1 before a packed house of 6,886 fans at Metro Bank Park Sunday night.

Adrian Sanchez walked with one out in the 10th inning and moved to second on a Tony Renda groundout to set the stage for Pleffner. The Senators' first baseman lifted a high fly ball that sailed over the head of New Britain left fielder Mike Tauchman for the game-winning hit. The Senators scored their other run in the second inning as Drew Vettleson, playing in his first game since April 9, singled and moved to third on a Kevin Keyes double. Matt Skole drove in Vettleson with a sacrifice fly to left-center field. Pleffner, who was 2-for-4, was the only player with multiple hits in the game.

In his second spot start of the season, Colin Bates pitched well for Harrisburg in five innings of work. Bates allowed just three hits and a run while striking out four. From there, the red-hot Senators bullpen took over. Sam Runion pitched two perfect innings and struck out one. Paul Demny walked one batter and struck out three in two scoreless innings. Hector Ambriz pitched a scoreless 10th inning to pick up his first win of the season. The Senators bullpen has not allowed a hit in 9.2 scoreless innings of work in the series.

Harrisburg will look to take three of four from the Rock Cats in tomorrow's series finale, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The pregame show will begin at 1:15 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
