Machine Blasts Launch 2-Point Spark

May 24, 2015 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) - Ohio Machine News Release

Sparking the Ohio Machine (3-3) to an offense-heavy 20-12 victory over the Florida Launch (1-5), Marcus Holman scored two goals to become the Machine's all-time leading goal scorer with 57 goals.

Scoring 20 goals, the most scored in a game so far this season, the Machine put on a record-breaking performance to avenge an early season loss to Florida to even its record at 3-3 in front of a passionate home crowd at Selby Stadium.

The Machine used a series of two-point goals in the first half to jump out to a 12-7 lead heading into halftime. The 12 goals are the most goals the Machine have score in a half so far this season.

After a two-point goal from Kyle Harrison started out the high-scoring affair, the Machine never looked back as the goals just kept coming all night long.

Holding onto a one goal lead after the first quarter, Kevin Cooper added the second two-point goal to start the second quarter and propel the Machine to expand its lead to five after the first 30 minutes of play.

The Machine came out for the second half just as they had ended the first as Harrison fired in the third two-point goal of the game, tying the Machine record for most in a game. To follow-up Harrison's efforts, Holman became the all-time leading scorer in Machine club history at the 13:48 mark in the third quarter.

While the offense continued to roll, the defense stood strong, holding Florida to 12 goals with Brain Phipps standing strong in the net.

Along with Harrison, Cooper and Holman, Jimmy Dailey was a huge contributor on the offensive end with four goals of his own for the Machine.

Despite playing without two of its regular offensive weapons in Steele Stanwick and Peter Baum who have accounted for a combined 15 goals so far this season, the Machine offense did not skip a beat as David Planning and Javon Miller suited up in Machine blue for the first time. For Planning, it was his pro debut following an outstanding college career at Ohio State. Miller, who was claimed off the Chesapeake practice squad earlier this week, scored his first goal in the Blue and White in the third quarter.

With the win over Florida, the Machine conclude a two-game home stand and is now set to hit the road for the next few weeks. The Machine travels to Denver on May 29 followed by a road game in Charlotte on June 5. The team returns to Selby Stadium on June 20 when the Chesapeake Bayhawks visit Columbus, OH.
