Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of veteran outfielder Nic Jackson to a contract for the 2015 season.

Jackson, 35, has played the last six seasons with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. In 98 games last year, he batted .257 with eight home runs and 45 RBI. His best season with Fargo came in 2009 when he hit .310 with 17 home runs and 97 RBI.

In 696 career games at the independent level, Jackson has a .301 batting average with 89 home runs and 503 RBI.

Jackson was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2000 MLB Amateur Draft and played six seasons in their system. He was rated on Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects List prior to the 2002 and 2003 seasons. He also spent time in the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies systems.

To make room on the roster, the Goldeyes have placed right-handed pitcher Coby Cowgill on the disabled list.

The Goldeyes now have 23 players on their active roster, including 11 pitchers and 12 position players.
