Midland RockHounds News Release

The popular sixties band, Herman's Hermits (hey, you have Google, look it up!) might well have been singing about the first two games of the series between the RockHounds and Hooks at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi.

In Friday night's series opener the 'Hounds scored twice in the second for a 2-0 lead, but the Hooks responded with five runs in the last of the first and went on to win, 12-8. Saturday, the RockHounds took a 1-0 lead on Renato Nuñez's solo home run in the second, but the Hooks came right back with a five-run outburst in the home half of the same inning, and claimed their second straight victory in the series, 7-1.

After Nuñez's solo shot, the 'Hounds loaded the bases with two out against Chris Devensky, who entered the game with the league's best earned run average (a microscopic 0.53). The right-hander escaped when Chad Pinder flew out to left with the bases full.

With the bases empty and one out in the last of the second, Nate Long's 2-2 pitch brushed Jon Kemmer. Singles from Roberto Pena and Leo Haras then loaded the bases, and Teoscar Hernandez's double into the left field corner scored two runs, giving Corpus Christi a lead it would not relinquish. The Hooks added three more runs in the second and Hernandez' second home run in as many nights, this one solo to left in the third, extended the lead to 6-1. The Hooks closed the scoring with an unearned run in the sixth.
