Chihuahuas Sweep Doubleheader Friday in New Orleans
May 22, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
El Paso Chihuahuas News Release
Two El Paso Chihuahuas held the New Orleans Zephyrs to three hits in a 4-1 win Friday at Zephyr Field. Zack Segovia picked up the win in his Chihuahuas debut after throwing five innings and allowing only one run. Segovia was transferred from Double-A San Antonio earlier in the week. Jay Jackson pitched two perfect innings to close the game. (Friday's doubleheader consisted of two seven-inning games.)
Both teams scored one run in the first inning of Game 1. Melvin Upton Jr. led off the top of the first with a double and later scored on Rymer Liriano's RBI single. After New Orleans tied the game 1-1, El Paso pushed ahead again with two runs in the top of the second on a two-run double by Alex Dickerson.
Three Chihuahuas walked in the top of the third, including Rocky Gale on an automatic ball four call when New Orleans pitcher Pat Misch didn't throw a 3-2 pitch before the pitch clock expired, and a bases-loaded, RBI walk by Mike McCoy.
Upton went 1-for-3 in Game 1. He did not appear in Game 2.

The Chihuahuas' pitching staff limited the New Orleans offense in Game 2 also, as El Paso beat the Zephyrs 4-1. New Orleans had just two hits in the game. Starter Daniel McCutchen tossed four shutout innings.
Brett Wallace hit an opposite field home run to left in the second inning to give El Paso a 1-0 lead. It was Wallace's fifth homer of the year and first on the road. Ramiro Pena hit a long two-out, three-run home run in the top of the sixth to extend El Paso's lead to 4-0.
The Zephyrs' lone run came on a seventh-inning RBI triple by Isaac Galloway.
The Chihuahuas are now 7-3 all-time in doubleheader games.
