FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 22, 2015) - The Brevard County Manatees defeated the Fort Myers Miracle, 2-1, in a tight game at Hammond Stadium on Friday night in front of 4,040 fans on Tobacco Free Lee Night.

Manatees starter Javier Salas delivered seven strong innings. Salas (3-3) allowed just one run on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

Brevard County took the lead in the first inning. Making a spot start for the Miracle, Luke Westphal gave up a pair of hits to Omar Garcia and Chris McFarland. A double steal with Clint Coulter at the plate moved both into scoring position with no outs. Coulter then hit a soft chopper to first base. Mitch Garver came home with the throw, but the speedy Garcia scored to give the Manatees a 1-0 edge.

The Miracle evened the score in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Jason Kanzler laid down a bunt single to third base and then stole second. Alex Swim then sliced a 2-2 pitch from Salas into left center field and Kanzler scored to tie the game, 1-1.

Westphal gave way Brian Gilbert out of the bullpen. After two scoreless innings, Gilbert (1-2) walked Victor Roache to lead off the sixth. Taylor Brennen struck out, but Garrett Cooper knocked a single through the right side on a hit-and-run to put runners on the corners. Jose Pena then hit a soft ground ball to third base. Bryan Haar went to second for the force play, but Pena beat the turn to first and the Manatees scored, 2-1.

Salas left the game in the seventh and Manny Barreda worked around a walk in the eighth. Kanzler reached with two outs and stole second base, but exited after an injury when shortstop Angel Ortega's cleat landed on his left hand.

The Manatees brought in Trevor Seidenberger for the ninth. Seidenberger retired the side in order for his third save of the season.
