May 22, 2015 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release

Sporting Kansas City faces the Seattle Sounders FC at 9 p.m. CT on Saturday at CenturyLink Field. The contest will be broadcast on KMCI's 38 the Spot in Kansas City and on SKCTV across the Midwest. Additional coverage will be available on 102.9 FM (English) and 1340 AM (Spanish).

Heading into this weekend's match, Seattle (6-3-1) sits one spot ahead of Sporting Kansas City (4-2-5) in the Western Conference standings. Sporting KC will look to surpass their Western Conference foes with a road victory on Saturday. Sporting KC is 1-2-2 on the road this season.

The visitors will once again look to overcome the absences of key players due to injuries and international duty on Saturday after earning all three points in their last outing against the 2014 MLS Cup runner-ups New England Revolution despite a depleted lineup. Manager Peter Vermes will be without Seth Sinovic (concussion), Ike Opara (left Achilles) and Chance Myers (left Achilles) and Erik Palmer-Brown (U-20 World Cup). Bernardo Anor (right hamstring strain), Marcel de Jong (left hip muscle strain), Roger Espinoza (left adductor strain), Paulo Nagamura (lower back sprain) and Graham Zusi (concussion) all remain questionable.

The Seattle Sounders, also fresh off three points, will be without attacking threat Obafemi Martins (tibial contusion) and Andres Correa (right adductor strain). Seattle defeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-0 last weekend in the club's100th regular season win as Chad Barrett scored two first-half goals.

In seven meetings against Sporting KC since 2010, Seattle has scored five game-winning goals in second half stoppage time. Three of Sporting KC's last four trips to Seattle have resulted in 1-0 defeats, with all three goals conceded coming in second half stoppage time. Neither team has won by more than one goal in all nine regular season meetings and in those nine games, the clubs have combined for more than three goals just once (Oct. 17, 2009). Sporting KC and Seattle Sounders FC lead the League in goals scored with 17 apiece in 2015.

Sporting KC's eight-game regular season winless run against Seattle is the longest versus any team in club history. In the lone meeting in 2014, Barrett scored the game-winner for the Sounders at CenturyLink Field and Clint Dempsey earned the assist.

Sporting KC is currently in the midst of a four-game unbeaten streak. Saturday's match is the second for Sporting KC in a four-day span and also the second of five consecutive matches to be played against 2014 MLS Cup playoff teams.

Saturday will be the first of three meetings between the two clubs during the 2015 MLS regular season. The next two matches will be at Sporting Park on June 6 and September 27.

In-game updates are available at SportingKC.com/GameOn, via Twitter @SKCGameday and through the Sporting Club Uphoria mobile app. Additionally, The Final Whistle: Sporting KC Postgame Show will air immediately following the conclusion of Saturday's match on Sports Radio 810 WHB.
