THE LEAD OFF: The Power dropped the first game of the series against the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-4 on Thursday night at Appalachian Power Park. The game started off promising for West Virginia with a run in the first thanks to a Taylor Gushue RBI single. Power starter Colten Brewer faced the minimum through the first seven batters of the game but the wheels fell off in the third with a bases loaded hit by pitch and a grand slam by Conor Bierfeldt to left capped off the Shorebirds' five-run inning. West Virginia chipped away at the game and put the tying run on base in the ninth but couldn't mount the comeback. Dovydas Neverauskas went five hitless innings in relief.

BIRD'S EYE VIEW: The Power continue the four-game set with the Delmarva Shorebirds tonight in Charleston. Both teams are tied for second place in the Northern Division with a 22-18 record. West Virginia will meet Orioles' South Atlantic League affiliate 15 total times this season including 11 match-ups at Appalachian Power Park. Since 2005, the Power are Shorebirds have played 134 games with Delmarva leading the all-time series 68-66.

B-U-L-L-P-E-N SPELLS RELIEF: West Virginia's bullpen currently has an ERA of 2.40 whereas Power starters hold a 4.04 ERA. The bullpen ERA lowered ten points yesterday with 6.1 shutout innings by Sam Street and Dovydas Neverauskas.

©AUNUOLIS: Last night was one of the best pitching performances that right hander Dovydas Neverauskas had in his South Atlantic League career. The 22-year-old hurled five hitless innings and nearly went five perfect frames, but a two-out error in the ninth proved otherwise. It was the second time this year that Neverauskas didn't surrender a run. As a reliever, Neverauskas has a 1.38 ERA in three outings compared to a 7.85 ERA in five starts.

FROM THE TOWN OF SPRINGFIELD DALLAS: Chase Simpson has been the most consistent hitter in the Power lineup this season. The Dallas native is hitting .303 with four home runs and a team-best 17 RBIs. Simpson ranks among the league leaders in hitting (10th), OBP (.419, T-1st) and walks (23, 4th).

DUCKS ON THE POND: When the bases are loaded, West Virginia is one of the most dangerous clubs in the South Atlantic League thanks to a team .314 average (11-for-35). The Power do not have any grand slams this season and ten of the eleven hits with the bags full are singles.

CHARGING THE BATTERIES: The Power return home for this four-game series against the Shorebirds before returning to the road for seven more games. At home this year, West Virginia owns a 13-7 record which is the second best in the league. While playing at home this year, the Power pitching staff has a 2.96 ERA compared to a 3.61 ERA on the road. Offensively, the club is hitting .258 with a .345 on-base percentage at Appalachian Power Park. On the road, the offense is hitting .254 with a .331 OBP.

POWER PROMO UPDATE- MAY 23: West Virginia will host Redneck Night IV tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The award-winning promotion includes Redneck Idol, a camo hat giveaway to the first 1,000 fans, an appearance by History Channel's Appalachian Outlaws, and a pre & postgame concert by the Davisson Brothers Band.

POWER POINTS: The Power are 13-4 when scoring first this season...West Virginia is 9-11 this month after going 13-7 in April...West Virginia is being outscored in the first inning 26-11...Cole Tucker leads the Power with ten stolen bases...Chase Simpson did not play on Thursday for the first time this season...24 of West Virginia's games have been decided by two runs or less.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh had an off day and will welcome in the New York Mets for a three-game series at PNC Park with Gerrit Cole pitching tonight...Indianapolis was off yesterday and are in action tonight in Syracuse....Josh Bell went 1-for-1 with three walks but Altoona lost in Portland 4-1...Seven different players in Bradenton's lineup tallied multi-hit games with Edwin Espinal leading the charge with a three-hit day.
