Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs are very pleased to announce Danny Flynn has been hired as the team's new head coach.

Flynn signed a three-year contract. Terms are not disclosed.

The 57-year-old from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, returns to the QMJHL after spending the 2014-15 season as an assistant coach with the Buffalo Sabres.

In six seasons between 2007 and 2013, Flynn was the head coach of the Moncton Wildcats, guiding them to a 219-183 record, and the 2010 President Cup championship. He won the Ron-Lapointe Trophy as coach of the year in 2009. He was also an associate coach with Moncton's 2006 President Cup championship squad.

He also coached St. Francis Xavier University for eight seasons until 2005, winning the 2004 Cavendish Cup as Canadian university champions. That followed a six-year stint as assistant coach and assistant general manager with the Ontario Hockey League's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, where his clubs won OHL championships in 1991 and 1992, and the 1993 Memorial Cup.

He also had the opportunity to work with Hockey Canada on six occasions, including gold medal wins with the national junior team, Under-18 program, Spengler Cup.

"Danny's record speaks for itself," said Sea Dogs General Manager Darrell Young. "He has a wide range of experience at different levels of the game, he understands what it takes to help our student-athletes excel, and he's a winner."

"I wish to thank to the Sea Dogs for this opportunity," said Flynn. "I'm looking forward to the challenge and excited about the chance to work with this group of players. Saint John is a great hockey town with a first-class facility and knowledgeable fans. I'm anxious to get started and be well-prepared for the start of the season."

"This is a proud day for our organization," said Sea Dogs President Wayne Long. "We've got a group of exciting, young players bursting with potential. We think Danny Flynn has the experience and credentials to return us to the upper echelon of the CHL again."

Flynn will be with his new team at the QMJHL Entry Draft on Saturday, June 6th, at Palais des Sports Leopold-Drolet in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The Sea Dogs hold the first selection, as well as ninth and tenth overall.
