Revs Unable To Find Key Hit In Matinee Loss To Ducks

Despite several opportunities, the York Revolution were unable to find the clutch hit against the Long Island Ducks, dropping a 6-1 decision on Thursday afternoon at Santander Stadium. The Ducks complete the series sweep, while the Revs will look to rebound when they welcome the Somerset Patriots to town for the first of four games on Friday night. Thursday's contest was played in front of a season-high 5,529 fans, the largest Baseball in Education Day crowd in stadium history.

Long Island scored the game's first run in the top of the third on a bloop single by Brian Sabatella, then added another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Blake Davis.

The Ducks extended the lead with a crippling three-run sixth inning. Lew Ford capped a nine-pitch at-bat by working a walk to start the frame. Cody Puckett then reached on a hit by pitch, and Jon Griffin walked to load the bases with no outs. Delta Cleary, Jr. lined an RBI single to left to plate the first run. Dillon Haupt added a sacrifice fly to center, while Griffin scored the third run on a passed ball to make it 5-0.

Cleary, Jr. added a sacrifice fly to right field in the eighth as the Ducks totaled three sacrifice flies on the day, tying the most in a game by an opposing team in Revs history for the fifth time. It marked the first time it had happened since July 5, 2012 at Camden.

York broke up Long Island's shutout bid with two outs in the ninth as Brandon Boggs drew a walk and scored on Eric Patterson's double to left-center.

Ducks reliever Mickey Jannis, who had made four starts previously, earned the win after entering in the third inning and finishing the remainder of the contest. The knuckle-balling right-hander allowed one run on six hits over seven innings while walking two and striking out six, totaling 115 pitches out of the bullpen.

Starter Billy Buckner tossed the first two innings, stranding four runners in his Ducks debut after allowing three hits and one walk.

York tied a season-high with 12 batters left on base, scoring just one run despite matching Long Island with nine hits.

York starter Matt Neil (1-1) suffered the loss in his first start of the year, allowing two runs on five hits in four innings of work, walking one and striking out four.

Notes: York falls to 1-5 against the Ducks this season. The Revs have lost a club record eight straight home games and are swept at home for the second straight series after winning four of their previous five on the road. York lefty Rommie Lewis (3-1, 2.21) will face Somerset southpaw Sean Bierman (2-1, 2.73) in Friday's series opener at 6:30 p.m. It is Deflatriots Day and a Guaranteed Win Friday presented by Commonwealth Connections Academy.
