Schlitter, Medina Activated by Iowa Cubs

DES MOINES, Iowa (May 21, 2015) - The Chicago Cubs today made a series of roster moves affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game at Principal Park against the Tacoma Rainiers. Right-handed pitcher Brian Schlitter was optioned to Triple-A on Monday and will be active tonight. Right-handed pitcher Yoervis Medina was acquired from the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday and will also be active this evening.

Schlitter, 29, is 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA (6 ER/6.2 IP) in nine relief outings with the Chicago Cubs this year. He has no record with two saves and a 0.00 ERA (6.0 IP) in six relief appearances with Iowa this season.

Medina, 26, has posted a 2.82 ERA (43 ER/137.0 IP) in 141 appearances out of the Mariners bullpen the last three seasons, turning in a 10-9 record with 43 holds and two saves. He has struck out 140 batters in 137.0 innings while limiting opponents to a .216 batting average. This year, Medina has gone 1-0 with three holds, one save and a 3.00 ERA (4 ER/12.0 IP) in 12 relief outings.

Medina is a native of Puerto Cabello, Venezuela and originally signed with the Mariners as a non-drafted free agent in 2005.

With today's moves, Iowa's active roster is now at 25 plus one player on the disabled list and one on bereavement.
