Salt Lake to Host Colorado Springs

May 20, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY (May 20) - The Salt Lake Bees return to Smith's Ballpark on Thursday following a successful 6-2 road trip against Tacoma and Reno. The Bees host the Colorado Springs Sky Sox for a four-game set running May 21-May 25 to start an eight-game homestand. The homestand will feature several promotions including fireworks and an appearance from Jazz Bear Friday and Military Appreciation Night and a mini-bat giveaway Saturday.

This is the first and only time Salt Lake will see Colorado Springs this season. Formerly the affiliate of the Rockies, Milwaukee now claims the Sky Sox as part of its farm system. Salt Lake went 3-1 against the Sky Sox in 2014 and 2-2 versus Nashville, the Brewers former affiliate.

Coming off a two-game winning streak, Nick Tropeano gets the ball to begin the series and will be followed in the rotation by Drew Rucinski, Andrew Heaney and Zach Stewart. Heaney's five wins tie for the most in the Pacific Coast League as he also ranks second in strikeouts (43) and is third in strikeouts per nine innings pitched among starters (8.93).

Salt Lake sits atop the league in several offensive categories. The team leads the PCL in hits (423) and triples (18), ranks second in doubles (88), average (.294) and total bases (616) and is third in runs (214) and RBIs (199).

Jett Bandy remains at the head of the Bees roster in batting average with a .375 mark and has recently exploded since taking over the starting catching job. Through his last eight starts, Bandy boasts a .481 average with four doubles, two home runs and 14 RBIs.

Former Salt Lake Bee Matt Long will make his first return to Smith's Ballpark since signing with the Brewers in the offseason. Long played his first six professional seasons in the Angels system including a career 262 games with the Bees. Current Salt Lake infielder Josh Rutledge also suited up for 53 games for Colorado Springs between 2013 and 2014.

Salt Lake's homestand runs through May 28 and will feature ALS Awareness Night on May 27. For more information and for tickets, visit www.slbees.com.
