Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
(Indianapolis, IN) - Steve Lombardozzi's 12th-inning single scored Alen Hanson and secured a 2-1 win for the Indianapolis Indians over the Pawtucket Red Sox on Wednesday at Victory Field. The victory salvaged the series finale for the Indians in front of 13,960 on a blustery Indianapolis afternoon.
Hanson ripped a double with one out in the 12th off of PawSox reliever Miguel Celestino (0-2) for his third hit of the day; in six games against the PawSox, he went 12-for-27 with three triples, three doubles and six runs scored.
Hanson moved to third when Gustavo Nunez reached on an infield single. Nunez then took second on defensive indifference. The PawSox elected to pitch to Lombardozzi - the league's leading hitter - and the Indians' left fielder ended the game.
Neither starter figured in the decision. Henry Owens walked four and allowed only five hits with five strikeouts over 5.1 innings. His fourth walk became a run when Owens uncorked a wild pitch that scored Brent Morel to put the Indians ahead 1-0.
Indianapolis starter Casey Sadler silenced Pawtucket over seven shutout innings. He allowed only three hits with four strikeouts and a walk. He would have earned a win were it not for Travis Shaw's ninth-inning heroics.
With two outs, two strikes and Quintin Berry - who had singled and stolen his 13th base - at second base, Shaw ripped a hard grounder through the middle that scored Berry and tied the game, 1-1.
The PawSox (23-18) - who took the first two games of the three-game series and won the season series four games to two. Pawtucket is now 2-5 in extra-inning games.
The PawSox will open a four-game series in Louisville on Thursday night at 6:35. Right-hander Jess Todd (1-0. 2.84) is expected to start for the PawSox while the Bats counter with righty Dylan Axelrod (1-3, 3.27). Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 6:20.
Pawtucket will return home on Memorial Day Monday, May 25th to begin a six-game homestand against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Louisville. Good seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
