Camden Riversharks News Release

Camden, NJ - Backed by a strong performance by starter Wes Torrez, the Riversharks defeated the Blue Crabs 5-2 in Wednesday's matinee.

On this particular afternoon, the Riversharks were firing on all cylinders, collecting 13 hits in addition to their stifling pitching.

The Riversharks started off the scoring in the third inning, courtesy of RBI singles by Ryan Strieby and newcomer Evan Crawford. From there, the Riversharks would not relinquish the lead.

In his best performance this season, Torrez threw seven innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits and one walk, while striking out seven Blue Crabs. The Blue Crabs could not string together any success against Torrez, as the right-hander never pitched with multiple men on base at once the entire outing.

The Blue Crabs would eventually score their first run in the fifth inning, but the Riversharks would quickly answer with a run of their own in the sixth inning to pad their lead.

The 'Sharks brought on closer Matt Gorgen for the ninth inning, and Gorgen retired the side in order for his league-leading seventh save.

Shaun Garceau (1-2) takes the loss for the Blue Crabs surrendering eleven hits and five runs in 5.2 innings pitched. Torrez (2-1) earned the win for the Riversharks.

The Riversharks finish their series with the Blue Crabs tomrrow, May 21st, with the game beginning at 7:05pm.
