Allen, Texas - The Professional Hockey Players' Association announced today that Allen Americans forward, Gary Steffes is the inaugural recipient of the 2014-2015 Heart, Hustle, and Desire Award voted on by ECHL players.

The award is given to the ECHL player who demonstrates heart, hustle, and desire each game, as well as being the hardest working player in the league.

Gary Steffes signed with the Americans as a free agent this past off-season and stepped in to make an immediate impact in the Americans lineup. The native of Grand Blanc, Michigan, who is in his fifth year of professional hockey, had his best season as a pro. He led the ECHL in goals this year with 44, and power play goals with 18. He also played nine games in the American Hockey League this season with Milwaukee, and scored 4 goals.

"It's a great honor and a blessing to be recognized by your peers," said Steffes. "This has been a great year for us and I'm so happy to be a part of it. Our big goal is to win another championship here in Allen and we have the right group to make that happen."

Steffes is off to a strong start in the postseason as well, with 7 goals and 9 points in 13 games. The Americans return to action on Thursday night in Ontario for Game 3 of the ECHL Western Conference Finals with the series tied 1-1.
