Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA - Rancho Cucamonga completed its second straight sweep, topping Lake Elsinore 5-2 in the finale of the four-game series at LoanMart Field on Monday night to complete a 6-0 homestand and run their season-best winning streak to eight consecutive games.

Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Quakes (24-13) went to work against Storm starter Matthew Shepherd (0-2). Paul Hoenecke drew a leadoff walk. Federico Celli drilled a double down the left field line, but Hoenecke was nabbed at the plate by the relay throw. Rob Garvey singled to right, plating Celli to give the Quakes the lead. Dillon Moyer ripped a triple to center field to score Garvey. Brandon Trinkwon followed with an infield single that chased Garvey home, capping the three-run inning to give Rancho Cucamonga a 5-2 advantage.

Lake Elsinore (16-21) struck first against Quakes' starter Johnathan Richy (5-1) in the second inning. Donavan Tate led off the frame with a double to left. Jeremy Rodriguez's double down the left field line scored Tate. Auston Bousfield delivered a two-bagger of his own, plugging the left-center field gap to plate Rodriguez for a 2-0 Storm lead.

Following that hiccup, Richy became dominant. The right-hander retired 17 of the last 18 men he faced, including 16 consecutive batters to conclude his outing. Richy pitched a season-high eight innings, allowing two runs, four hits and three walks while striking out three.

The Quakes tied the game in the bottom of the second. Kyle Farmer walked to lead off the inning, Webster Rivas singled to right and Joey Curletta walked to load the bases. Celli, the Italian-born player making his High-A debut, flared a single to center, driving in Farmer and Rivas to tie the contest at 2-2.

With Rancho Cucamonga up 5-2 and Richy at 95 pitches, Ramon Benjamin entered from the bullpen to close things out, surrendering a Storm single while striking out one to earn his first save of the year.

The Quakes are now 15-5 at LoanMart Field this season, including an 8-0 mark in Rancho Cucamonga against Lake Elsinore. The eight-game winning streak is their longest since June 25-July 4, 2014, when the Quakes rattled off nine-in-a-row.

Rancho Cucamonga will now hit the road on a seven-game trip to Inland Empire and San Jose, where they'll begin a three-game series with the 66ers in San Bernardino on Tuesday night. Right-hander Zack Bird (2-1, 4.41 ERA) will get the start for the Quakes, while Inland Empire counters with righty Harrison Cooney (1-2, 4.66 ERA). First pitch at San Manuel Stadium is scheduled for 7:05 pm. You can follow all the action on FOX Sports 1350 AM, beginning with the pregame show at 6:50.

The Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Wednesday, May 27 against Modesto. That contest against the Nuts is Terra Vista Animal Hospital's Bark in the Ballpark! Pet passes cost just $3, with proceeds benefiting the Rancho Cucamonga Animal Shelter. Tickets for all remaining home games are available at (909) 481-5000 or at rcquakes.com.
