Jackson Generals News Release
Kodak, Tenn. - Everything went right for the Jackson Generals on Monday morning as they came away with an 11-0 win over the Tennessee Smokies at Smokies Stadium. The Generals set a season-high with 16 hits on offense, while Scott DeCeccon and Moises Hernandez combined on a three-hit shutout of one of the Southern League's best offenses.
Jackson (16-20) had a 1-0 lead after D.J. Peterson doubled in Steve Baron in the third inning, but the Generals did most of their damage in the fifth inning. Jackson set 2015 highs with seven runs and six hits in the inning, sending 11 men to the plate.
Jabari Blash knocked Tennessee starter Tyler Ihrig (0-1, 6.23) out of the game with an RBI single that made it 2-0, but that was just the beginning. Two batters later, Gabriel Guerrero knocked in a run with a double and Dan Paolini followed with a two-run double to put Jackson up four.
Reliever Gerardo Concepcion struck out Steve Baron for the second out of the inning, but Tyler Smith and Jack Reinheimer followed with an RBI single and a two-run double respectively to cap off the seven-run inning.
Jackson's 8-0 lead over Tennesse (21-17) would more than hold up thanks to a quality start from Scott DeCecco (1-2, 5.85). The lefty allowed just three hits in six scoreless innings to earn his first victory of the season. He struck out six batters while walking four. It was just the third time in 2015 that a Jackson starter went six innings, and the first time since April 26.
The Generals added three runs in the eighth inning on an opposite field home run from Jordy Lara that made it 11-0. Lara was the only Jackson player without a hit entering the inning. The long ball was his third of the year and Lara now leads the club with 17 runs batted in.
Moises Hernandez (S, 1) pitched three perfect innings behind DeCecco to earn the save. The shutout was Jackson's second in a row and the team's fourth of the season. It was also the team's fourth three-hitter, as Tennessee got just one hit apiece from Albert Almora Jr., Willson Contreras and Anthony Giansanti.
With the series now tied 2-2, the Generals and Smokies will play game five of six on Tuesday night at Smokies Stadium. Jake Zokan (1-1, 4.87) will start for the Generals against Tennessee righty Ivan Pineyro (3-1, 3.18). First pitch from Kodak, Tennesssee is set for 7:05 pm ET/6:05 pm CT and you can listen to all the action on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) starting with the Tennessee Army National Guard Pregame Show 15 minutes before the game gets underway.
After this 11-game, 10-day road trip, the Generals return home on Tuesday, May 26 for five games with the Montgomery Biscuits. That series is headlined by a Two-For-Tuesday (May 26), State Farm Agent Wes Harris Dollar Night (May 28) and Night of Heart with Fireworks (May 30) presented by the West Tennessee Heart & Vascular Center! Tickets for all five games are still available by calling (731) 988.5299, stopping by the park or going online to jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
