TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (8-5) and Allen Americans (8-3) play the second match of the Western Conference Finals at the Allen Event Center. The winner of this series will face the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals (Toledo Walleye vs. South Carolina Stingrays) in the Kelly Cup Finals. This is the first time both teams have appeared in the Conference Finals in ECHL play; Allen previously won back-to-back President's Cups in the Central Hockey League before joining the ECHL for 2014-15. The Reign and Americans split the regular season series at 1-1-0-0.
REIGN ON THE WRONG SIDE OF HISTORY FOLLOWING GAME 1 LOSS:
Sunday's blowout matched the club record for the worst margin of defeat in Reign playoff history. Ontario previously had lost by six goals in a 6-0 defeat to the Idaho Steelheads in Game 4 of the 2013 Western Conference Semifinals.
SPECIAL TEAMS CONTINUE TO PLAY MAJOR ROLE:
Despite failing to convert on its five power play chances on Sunday, Ontario still leads the playoffs with a 24.3% rate; Allen is not far behind, converting on three of its six opportunities in Game 1, pulling them to a 23.7% rate throughout the postseason.
BATTLE FOR GOAL-SCORING LEAD:
Ontario's Matt White and Allen's Greger Hanson and Gary Steffes continue to jockey for position for the goal-scoring title in the postseason; Hanson's two tallies allowed him to maintain his hold on first place, while Steffes sits one back of his teammate following his own pair. White, meanwhile, is tied with Steffes for second after tallying in the first period for the Reign on Sunday.
