Bako Gets Thumped in Adelanto, 14-1

May 18, 2015 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

The rout was on early, and for the second straight game, the High Desert Mavericks did all the smiling, as the Bakersfield Blaze dropped another contest by double digits, 14-1, on Sunday afternoon at Heritage Field.

A day after falling 12-0, the Mavs one-upped their previous night's effort.

On this Sunday, the wind was howling out to left, and Mavs starter Richelson Pena (W, 1-3) managed to keep the Blaze out of the air. Pena went seven innings, allowing just three fly balls, while surrendering one unearned run.

Meanwhile, the Blaze pitchers were overwhelmed by the surroundings. Eddie Campbell (L, 0-1), making his Blaze debut, was unable to get through the 1st inning, as the lefty gave up six runs while retiring just two Mavs.

The Blaze bullpen was forced to pick up the other 7.1 innings, with Emilio Pagan, Dylan Unsworth and Will Mathis combining to chew up the innings. Pagan and Unsworth were each tagged for four runs, and Mathis pitched a scoreless 8th.

Offensively, the Blaze got their only run in the 6th when Justin Seager reached on an error, and eventually scored on a Tim Lopes base hit. Lopes, a lone bright spot, had two hits in the contest for a second straight game, and the former Mav has five knocks in the series (including a game-winner).

The Blaze will look to rebound on Monday in an early morning affair, as Ryan Yarbrough takes the hill at 10:35am.

Then, the Blaze come home for a seven game homestand beginning Tuesday with the FREE BASEBALL Facebook Fan Night. Make sure to head to Facebook.com/BakersfieldBlaze to print out your free ticket now!

Fans can listen to every pitch at BakersfieldBlaze.com or TuneIn Radio. Dan Besbris has the call, with pregame show set to begin five minutes before first pitch.
