Curve Stunned by 'Ducks in Finale 11-1

May 17, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - The Curve looked to rebound after Saturday night's 13-inning loss to the Akron RubberDucks in pursuit of winning the series but they weren't able to get their offense going in a 11-1 loss to close the series. The 10-run loss is the most lopsided loss of the season for the Curve.

Akron (16-21) chased Curve starter Tyler Glasnow (2-2) in the fourth inning. It was Glasnow's first game back in since spraining his ankle sliding into second base on May 6. After a scoreless first, Glasnow went on to allow five earned runs in 3.2 innings. The 6-8 righty walked four and struck out one on Sunday afternoon.

Altoona's offense tried to get things going in the first thanks to a lead-off walk by Keon Broxton, but the Curve's offense couldn't find any traction against the "Ducks pitching. Altoona had seven hits total in the game with multi-hit games for Edward Salcedo and Gift Ngoepe. The Curve were able to score a run in the bottom of ninth inning with a single by Broxton that scored Dan Gamache. With the run, they have yet to be shut out in 2015.

All told, Akron scored runs in five different innings and led 6-0 after the fourth inning. The 11 runs allowed by the Curve were a season-high while the 13 hits permitted fell two shy of the season-high of 15.

The Curve (22-13) now travel to Portland to enjoy the off day on Monday before Tuesday night's 6 p.m. game against the Portland Sea Dogs. On the hill for Altoona on Tuesday will be right-hander RHP Angel Sanchez (3-1, 2.09), who has yet to allow a run in 18.2 innings pitched on the road this season. He'll start against Sea Dogs starting pitcher Luis Diaz (0-3, 5.58).

The next Curve homestand begins May 29 with the Tony Watson "Elementary" Bobblehead to the first 1,500 fans presented by the Altoona Grand Hotel. For tickets and more information, visit AltoonaCurve.com, call 877.99.CURVE or visit the box office at PNG Field.

Airtime for Tuesday night's game in Portland on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM is scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
