Szczur Activated by Iowa, Ihrig Reassigned to Double-A

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 17, 2015) - The Chicago Cubs made a series of roster moves that will affect today's game between Iowa and Oklahoma City at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Outfielder Matt Szczur was optioned to Triple-A Iowa Saturday, and will report to the I-Cubs today in Oklahoma City. Additionally, left-handed pitcher Tyler Ihrig has been transfered to Double-A Tennessee.

Szczur, 25, hit .172 (5-for-29) with two doubles and five RBI in 18 games in two stints with Chicago this season. With Iowa, Szczur is hitting .262 (11-for-42) with two homers, a triple and seven RBI in 11 games this year.

Ihrig, 23, made a spot start for Iowa on May 12, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings in a loss against Nashville.

With these moves, Iowa's active roster is now at 23, plus one major league rehab assignment, one player on the disabled list and one player on bereavement.
