Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 16, 2015) - Jake Cose pitched six strong innings for Winston-Salem, but the Dash mustered only three baserunners in a 4-0 loss to the Salem Red Sox in front of 5,330 at BB&T Ballpark.
Red Sox (20-17) starter Kevin McAvoy (3-2) retired the first 11 men he faced en route to a 7.0 inning effort in which he fanned five against one hit and one walk for the win. Both baserunners McAvoy allowed came in the fourth inning before he erased them with a strikeout of Nick Basto.
Salem jump-started their evening with an RBI single by Aneury Tavares in the second inning to go up 1-0.
Winston-Salem (15-22) starter Jake Cose (0-1) kept the score there until the sixth, when Wendell Rijo's base hit drove in Sam Travis to double the Red Sox's lead.
Cose was a tough-luck loser, yielding two runs on six hits in 6.0 innings for Winston-Salem's third consecutive quality start. The right-hander struck out five and walked only one.
The Red Sox were able to put the game out of reach in the eighth inning. Tzu-Wei Lin led off against Dash reliever Michael Ynoa with a single and moved to second two batters later on a base hit by Kevin Heller. A passed ball advanced each of the runners up a base before Jake Romanski's infield single scored Lin to put Salem at a 3-0 advantage. On an 0-1 count, Ynoa issued a wild pitch to Rijo that plated Heller before departing immediately with an undisclosed injury.
The Dash look to salvage this three-game set by sending Matt Heidenreich (5-0, 2.21 ERA) to the bump against Salem's Daniel McGrath (1-1, 1.80). Television coverage of Sunday's contest will be available on My48 at 2 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn Radio app. The Pregame Dash will begin at 1:45 p.m., with the first pitch at 2 p.m.
The homestand concludes with a Family Sunday starting at 2 p.m. Hot dogs and sodas are just $1 through the end of the second inning when the Dash host the Salem Red Sox. For tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
