Rochester Rhinos News Release

Rochester, NY - The Rochester Rhinos took their unbeaten, 6-0-2, record to Wilmington on Saturday night to face the Wilmington Hammerheads FC at Legion Stadium.  Last game's hero, Steevan Humberto Fortes "Duba" Dos Santos, put the Rhinos on top in the 87th minute before Ashani Fairclough put away his chance to put the game back in knots at one goal apiece and the match ended in a draw. With the draw, the Rhinos remain unbeaten on the year, 6-0-3, and remain at the top of the USL Eastern Conference.

The first half of play was dominated by the Rhinos. The Rhinos put the pressure on early and didn't let up. Great combination play from the defenders to the forwards led to promising attacks which, in turn, led to a total of seven corner kicks for the Rhinos in the first half. Each corner kick whipped in by Jonny Mendoza came closer and closer to a goal. The final corner kick awarded to the Rhinos in the first half was powerfully put on goal by Julian Ringhof but was headed clear off the line by midfielder Justin Moose and kept the score line knotted at zero.

The second half saw a majority of the play being played in the middle of the pitch with both sides' defense standing tall. Both sides had a few chances, but neither could capitalize on the final efforts. It wasn't until the 87th minute when your Rhinos struck first. For the second match in a row, Kenardo Forbes played a wonderful ball into Duba who used a deft touch to finish the play.

Just minutes later in stoppage time, Wilmington stormed down the field and wound up with a corner kick after some pressure. The first effort on the corner was cleared by Julian Ringhof, but was served back into the box where Ashani Fairclough came crashing through the box to head the ball into the side netting leveling the match at one goal apiece.

The final whistle blew in Wilmington with the Rhinos settling for a draw on the road keeping their record, 6-0-3, unblemished through nine matches. The Rhinos are the final team in the entire USL to be unbeaten and sit at the top of the USL Eastern Conference with 21 points.

The next match for the Rhinos is on Wednesday, May 20th, and is the 2nd round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup against Greater Binghamton FC, of the NPSL, and is scheduled to kickoff at 7:05pm at Sahlen's Stadium. Tickets for this game start at $8.00 for youth 12 and under and $10.00 for adults.
