Bees Sting Cougars in Finale

(Geneva-IL)-The Burlington Bees batted around in the fifth inning, scoring four runs on their way to a 8-3 win over the Kane County Cougars in series finale on Thursday at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

The second batter of the game, Erick Salcedo, singled with one out. After an Andrew Daniel walk, Zach Houchins grounded into a fielders' choice, getting Daniel at second, giving the Bees the lead, 1-0, when the throw went into the dugout, scoring Erick Salcedo.

With the score still 1-0, Trevor Gretzky tripled to right center to lead off the fifth inning. Caleb Adams gave the Bees a two run advantage with a single to right, scoring Gretzky. Erick Salcedo singled to right, putting runners at the corners with no outs. After a fly out, Zach Houchins reached on a fielders' choice, when the throw to the plate was late, scoring Adams, upping the Bees' lead to 3-0. After Erick Salcedo scored on a wild pitch, putting the Bees up by four, Zach Houchins came in on a Ryan Seiz sacrifice fly, extending the Bees lead to 5-0.

In the next inning, Trevor Gretzky smacked a lead off single to center but was out at secondm when the next hitter, Caleb Adams grounded into a fielders' choice. Erick Salcedo picked up his third hit of the game, putting runners at first and second and one out. Andrew Daniel crushed his team leading fourth homer of the season, a three run shot to left, putting the Bees' lead at 8-0.

Kane County started a rally in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ryan Gebhardt led off the inning with an infield single and moved to third on a double by Cody Regis. Marty Herum put the Cougars on the board with a single to left, scoring both Gebhardt and Regis, cutting the Bees' lead to 8-2. Ryan Hutchinson drove in the Cougars' third run with a double to right. Ronnie Muck came on from the Bees' bullpen and got a double play ball to end the inning.

Muck and Eduardo Parades kept Kane County scoreless the rest of the game, helping the Bees secure the 8-3 win. Justin Anderson (3-0) earned the win, throwing five innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out three. Kane County starter, Brad Keller (1-4) was charged with the loss.

The Bees return home to open a three game series with the Clinton LumberKings, Friday night at 6:30, at Community Field.
