Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A crowd of 8,500 - including about 5,000 in school classes - were in attendance for Wednesday's matinee and fourth game between Birmingham (16-17) and Chattanooga (20-13). The Lookouts blanked the Barons 3-0 despite the company. It was the third sellout of the 2015 season and third Wednesday sellout in Regions Field history - the first since 2013.

Chattanooga hurler Jose Berrios (4-1, 2.60 ERA) held Birmingham to two hits, tossing the complete-game shutout. The right-hander struck out eight and allowed just two walks. Jacob May and Joey DeMichele were the only two Barons hitters to find hits - both singles.

All three Lookouts runs were scored off Barons starter Myles Jaye (2-2, 4.05 ERA) in the second inning. On one out, Max Kepler doubled to right-center to plate the first run, and Kepler scored in the following at bat on a second double from Adam Walker. After the second out was recorded, Heiker Meneses singled to drive in Walker.

Jaye pitched six innings, allowing just four hits. The right-hander struck out three and walked three. Jaye is now 2-1 in his last five starts. Relievers Onekli Garcia and J.B. Wendelken combined to throw the final three innings. Garcia was lights-out through two, striking out two and walking one with no hits, and Wendelken gave up just one hit and a walk in the ninth.

The two teams meet again Thursday at 7:05 p.m. for the fifth game of the six-game series. Right-handed prospect Frankie Montas (0-0, 3.00 ERA) searches for his first win, and the Lookouts send righty Greg Peavey (2-1, 8.89 ERA) to the hill. Montas is winless through four starts on the year. He missed his scheduled start in Chattanooga in April with an injury.

Thursday is Thirsty Thursday at Regions Field. Two-dollar drink specials offered on 16 oz. sodas, beer and wine for all in attendance, and a pregame concert is set to take place in the 14th Street Courtyard as part of the Thursday Concert Series presented by Birmingham Mountain Radio and Tin Roof.
