RubberDucks Overcome by Erie

May 13, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Erie SeaWolves used a three-run, seventh-inning rally, highlighted by Dean Green's two-run double, to claim a 6-5 win over the Akron RubberDucks Wednesday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park.

Turning Point

Green, who entered the game second in the league in hitting at .363, clubbed a two-run double to center off RubberDucks right-hander Trey Haley (0-2) to give the SeaWolves a 6-5 lead in the seventh inning. It was Green's third RBI of the day and his 16th of the year, and capped a three-run outburst. All of the runs were unearned off Haley.

Mound Presence

Right-hander Mike Clevinger started for the RubberDucks, and worked the first six innings. Making his seventh start of the season, Clevinger allowed three runs on five hits while walking one and striking out four. He retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced, and left with a 5-3 lead. Haley took over in the seventh and induced Erie's Harold Castro to ground to second base, but Yonathan Mendoza committed an error allowing Castro to reach. Haley went on to give up a single, walk, sacrifice fly and Green's double.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks (14-19) came back from a 3-1 deficit in the sixth inning on a clutch, two-out, three-run double by Justin Toole that put Akron in front, 4-3. Toole's double into the left-field corner chased Erie starter Josh Turley from the game. Two batters later, Jordan Smith lined an RBI single off reliever Joe Mantiply (1-1) to give the RubberDucks a 5-3 lead. Smith later added an infield single in the ninth to finish 2-5. He extended his hitting streak to six games.
