Rush Fall in Game 6

May 13, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL) - Rapid City Rush News Release

(ALLEN, TX) - Cody Ferriero and Daniel Tetrault gave the Rapid City Rush two power play goals in the first, but Jamie Schaafsma led the Allen Americans with 3 points on the evening to a 4-2 win in Game 6 of the ECHL's Central Division Finals. The win gives Allen the series by a count of 4 games to 2.

For the first time since Game 2 of the series, the Americans drew first blood. Just 2:43 into the first period, Jamie Schaafsma took advantage of a scramble in front of the Rush net and just barely beat Rush netminder Danny Battochio to put the Americans up 1-0. But once again in this building, special teams came up huge for the Rush. Their first power play of the game ultimately turned into a five-on-three advantage, and the Rush evened things up. Cody Ferriero notched his team-leading fifth goal of the playoffs, circling the Allen zone and firing a slap shot past Allen goaltender Riley Gill to equalize the game at 1-1 at just over the midway point of the first. Daniel Tetrault added his first of the postseason on the third Rush power play of the game, ripping a slap shot from the blue line past Gill, who was without a stick during the Rush man-advantage. Tetrault gave the Rush a 2-1 lead with 14:21 gone by in the first, and the lead held into the second period.

The Americans found life in the middle frame and tied things up at the 6:29 mark of the period. Greger Hanson found space in the low slot and beat Battochio right after an Americans power play expired, tying things up at 2-2 heading into the third.

After 9:01 of tied hockey in the third period, the Americans pulled ahead. Konrad Abeltshauser came in on Battochio and dished the puck to Chris Crane, who put the Americans up 3-2 with 10:59 left in regulation with his fourth goal of the postseason. Jamie Schaafsma added a second tally with 4:15 left in the game, throwing a puck off of the body of a Rush defender and into the net, lifting the Americans to a 4-2 advantage. Despite outshooting Allen 10-4 in the 3rd, the Rush couldn't rally late, and fell to the Americans 4-2, eliminating the Rush from the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Danny Battochio stopped 26 of 30 shots thrown towards his net (6-7-0). The Rush power play had their best showing of the postseason, going 2/4 on the night.
