Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- Dylan Bandy's two-home run night spelled trouble for Tacoma in the Rainiers 4-3 loss to the Bees at Cheney Stadium on Monday night.
The catcher cut Tacoma's 2-0 lead in half with a solo blast that led off the fourth inning. Bandy went deep again in the eighth, erasing a 2-1 advantage for the Rainiers with a three-run blast that put the Bees on top for good.
Tacoma pulled ahead early after posting a two-run frame in the third. Shawn O'Malley scored on a fielding error and James Jones plated Leury Bonilla with an RBI ground out. John Hicks hit a solo home run - his third in his last four games - that brought the Rainiers within a run in the eighth.
As a team, the Rainiers tallied five hits in their series opener with the Bees. Infielder Ketel Marte led the club after going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. He now leads the team with a .346 batting average through 32 games played this season.
Starter Sam Gaviglio limited Salt Lake to one run on four hits in 6.0 innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked two in his seventh start this season. Lucas Luetge (0-1) surrendered the three-run home run to Bandy in the eighth and was dealt the loss.
The Rainiers (14-19) host the second game of a four-game series with Salt Lake (13-19) at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow, May 13. Right-hander Forrest Snow (1-2, 3.09) is slated to start for Tacoma. Right-hander Zach Stewart (1-2, 3.79) is expected to start for the Bees.
