Hernandez Goes Deep Again to Steal Game from San Antonio

San Antonio Missions News Release

A two-run homer in the top of the eighth by Teoscar Hernandez lifted Corpus Christi to a 3-2 win over San Antonio in Tuesday night's series finale at Wolff Stadium.

Tuesday was another night in which offense was at a premium at the Wolff. After both teams failed to score in the first two innings, the Hooks took advantage of two Missions errors on one play in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead on starter Colin Rea.

San Antonio responded in its half against Corpus Christi starter Mike Hauschild, taking a 2-1 lead on a clutch, two-out, two-run RBI single by Casey McElroy.

The unearned run in the third was the only one allowed by Rea, who fanned five in five and two-thirds innings. Reliever Brandon Alger preserved the Missions' lead through the seventh. After Alger allowed a leadoff single to Leo Heras in the top of the eighth, manager Jamie Quirk called to the bullpen and brought in Adam Cimber (0-1). The right-hander promptly induced catcher Roberto Pena to bounce out to second for the first out of the inning. That brought up Hernandez, who gave his team the lead for good when he took Cimber's 1-1 pitch onto the berm in left. It was Hernandez's fourth homer of the season and his third of the series.

Lance McCullers (3-1) did not allow a hit, while striking out six over the final four innings Tuesday to lock up the series victory for Corpus Christi (20-12).

After a day off, San Antonio (14-18) travels to Security Bank Ballpark to open up a four-game series with the Midland RockHounds (17-15) Thursday night at 7:00 PM. Bryan Rodriguez (2-4, 5.35) will get the ball for the Missions, while the RockHounds counter with fellow righty Tim Atherton (0-1, 3.27).

Notes: Travis Jankowski finished 0-for-4, ending both his career-high, 27-game on-base streak and his 10-game hit streak.
