Beach Bums Opening Day Roster Released

WUERFEL PARK - The last of the player personnel choices have been made and the final cuts issued. The Traverse City Beach Bums are proud to release the team roster heading into the 2015 season opener this weekend in Evansville.

Manager Dan Rohn has a roster at the Frontier League limit of 24 players and includes 11 pitchers, six outfielder, five infielders and two catchers.

On the infield, fifth year veteran, and 2012 Frontier League MVP, Jose Vargas is back to anchor third base. Also returning for his second season is first basemen Yazy Arbelo, who clubbed a team-high 17 homers last season. Rounding out the infield are newcomers Sam Bumpers, Graham Ramos and Alex Tomasovich.

A pair of players who had strong rookie seasons in 2014 are back in the outfield. Jeff DeBlieux is back after hitting .274/4/31 and 23 steals. Greg Harisis is also returning after joining the team midway through last season. In 49 games he hit .267 with 18 stolen bases. New to the team are Jay Austin, Brandon Jacobs, Adam Kirsch and Reggie Lawson.

Behind the plate, 2014 Frontier League All-Star Jake Rhodes returns. Rhodes hit .271/3/30 in his first pro season. Joining Rhodes is Shane Rowland, who spent the last two seasons in the Cleveland organization.

The pitching staff returns a few faces including 2014 Frontier League All-Star Casey Delgado. In his first season with the Beach Bums, and second in the league overall, Delgado made a team-high 19 starts going 7-6 with a 3.25 ERA. He led the league with 118 strikeouts. Chuck Ghysels is back in the bullpen. He struck out 72 in only 49 innings for the Beach Bums in 2014. Ian MacDougall climbs the hill again in Traverse City following his first season that saw him go 6-4, 3.25 ERA. Also back is Alex Phillips who made 15 starts last season.

Newcomers to the staff include Andrew Brockett, Kramer Champlin, Bret Dahlson, Luis DeJesus, Anthony Montefusco, Chris Rice and Michael Shreves.

The Beach Bums begin the season Friday night at 7:35pm (eastern) at the Evansville Otters. Traverse City will play two more in Evansville and then three at the Rockford Aviators before their home opener Friday May 22nd vs. Windy City at 7:05pm.

All games are broadcast live on 98.1 The Bear.

The summer of 2015 will also see the debut of the Wuerfel Park Farmers & Flea Market every Saturday starting June 13th. Registration to sell items runs 7am-10am and costs $50 for two parking spaces or $90 for four parking spaces. The market is open to the public 10am-3pm and admission is free.

The Wuerfel Park offices are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Beach Bums will play 51 games at Wuerfel Park in 2015 starting with the home opener and a FANtastic Fireworks Friday on May 22 at 7:05 pm. Season ticket packages are now available!
