Mudcats Arrive Safely Following Accident

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (MAY 12, 2015) "" Early Tuesday morning, the Carolina Mudcats' bus, traveling overnight from Salem, Virginia, to Myrtle Beach, flipped over. Seven players and the team's athletic trainer were hospitalized but have now been released. As a result of the accident, Tuesday's contest between the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, and the Mudcats has been postponed. A date to make up the game has not yet been determined.

"We are relieved and grateful that the injuries were relatively minor in nature so that the individuals in need of attention could be treated and released to rejoin their teammates," said Pelicans President and General Manager Andy Milovich. "We've been in touch with their staff to make sure any needs they have while in Myrtle Beach are met."

As of 1:20 p.m. ET on Tuesday, the Carolina Mudcats front office confirmed that all players and coaches were accounted for, had been treated and released, and the team has arrived safely in Myrtle Beach.

As reported by several news outlets, the incident in question involved the Mudcats' team bus and an accident that occurred while the team traveled overnight from Salem, VA to Myrtle Beach, SC.

Details of the injuries sustained by the players and staff will not be released at this time. The entire staff and full roster of players did make the trip to Myrtle Beach following the accident.

In lieu of the game, the Pelicans will open the gates with free admission to all fans with a pregame catch on the field and an intrasquad exhibition game from the Pelicans Travel Baseball Club. The pregame catch on the field will run from 6:00-6:30 p.m., and the Pelicans Travel Baseball Club game will run from approximately 6:35-7:30 p.m.

Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and close at approximately 8:00 p.m. The Kids Zone with inflatable amusements will be open and free of charge. Fans of all ages can partake in a pregame catch on the field beginning at 6:00 p.m. Limited concessions will be available including the scheduled $2.00 craft draft beers from 6:00-8:00 p.m. as part of $2day Brewsday.

Fans should enter through the main gate, Gate 1, located near right field at the main parking lot.

Anyone with tickets or vouchers for Tuesday's game can exchange them for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any future Pelicans regular season game during the 2015 regular season or beyond, subject to availability.

The series with the Mudcats is expected to resume on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.

Wednesday is a Wiener Wednesday, presented by Hebrew National with two-for-one hot dogs all game long. It's also part of the Strike Out Cancer Series with Childhood Cancer Awareness Night, presented by the American Cancer Society. The Pelicans are asking all fans in attendance to donate a new teddy bear. All gifts will be donated to children fighting cancer. It's a Baseball Bingo night, presented by AARP.
