Rodriguez, Hoskins, Tomscha Lead Claws to 8-2 Win

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Herlis Rodriguez and Rhys Hoskins each had three hits and Damek Tomscha homered as the BlueClaws topped Asheville 8-2 on Monday night at FirstEnergy Park.

The BlueClaws snapped a five-game losing streak and improved to 14-16 while Asheville, who has won two of the first three in the series, falls to 14-17 on the year.

The BlueClaws took a first-inning lead off Ryan Castellani, scoring two unearned runs on an RBI single by Rhys Hoskins and an RBI double by Deivi Grullon. After Asheville tied the game in the top of the 3rd inning, the BlueClaws re-claimed the lead with two more unearned runs on a Carlos Tocci groundout and a Hoskins RBI single.

Cord Sandberg added a 5th inning SAC fly whileTomscha hit a two-run HR in the 6th inning for the BlueClaws.

Ricardo Pinto (3-1) earned the win, allowing two runs over seven innings and striking out eight. Pinto has thrown at least seven innings in three of his six starts this year. Joey DeNato finished the game with two scoreless innings.

Castellani (0-3) took the loss, allowing four unearned runs in 2.2 innings.

Hoskins was 3-3 for the BlueClaws while Rodriguez was 3-4. Malquin Canelo went 2-4 for the BlueClaws and now has 11 multi-hit games on the season.

The series with Asheville concludes on Tuesday night. LHP Josh Taylor (1-2) starts for Lakewood against RHP Carlos Polanco (1-4).
